Rivers, Lakes, Ponds and Streams

These images are from past photographic excursions, from the 1990's up to a few years ago. Many lakes and ponds in the region are man-made, but eventually, nature takes over, so I've included some. All of these scenes are little changed to this day.

Allegheny River

This was taken at Killbuck, in the Allegheny Territory of the Seneca Nation of Indians.

A Mountain Brook

This small brook runs past the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum in Potter County, PA.

Cuba Lake

This lake was made in the late 1800's to feed the Genesee Valley Canal. Today, most of the lake is developed, but a few more natural looking spots like this one can be found.
Griffin Creek

This wintery scene was shot near Cuba, NY in early March.

Allegheny Reservoir

Springtime on the Allegheny Reservoir. The reservoir resulted from the damming of the Allegheny River above Warren, Pa. It was part of a flood control project for Pittsburgh. The reservoir floods the valley up to Interstate 86 in NY at the normal pool level, and extends to the west end of Salamanca during a flood pool. This photo was taken from the East Bank Perimeter Road, just inside Allegany State Park, below the Quaker Run dam.

Allegheny Reservoir

Taken in the summer, this is a view of Cornplanter Run, an arm of the reservoir that flooded the Cornplanter Tract in Pennsylvania. Much of the Seneca Nation Allegany Territory was lost to the reservoir as well, but the Senecas retained the rights to the submerged lands.

Science Lake

Really a pond, this man-made pool is located in Allegany State Park. The leaves on the maples are starting to change in this mid-September photograph.
